I plan to start offering several of the artifacts that we salvaged from our visit back in December on eBay in the near future. There really aren't that many items since the lodge was picked over years ago. However, I do have several interior doors, window frames, a very limited amount of bricks, and a few other things that Faulkner collectors might find interesting. Several of these items are to be donated to the "Union County Heritage Museum" located here in New Albany. William Faulkner's birthplace is only a stone's throw from the museum, so I felt that it was only appropriate that they have a few of the hunting lodge items to display. The problem, of course, is authenticating these items for potential collectors. Tragically, a man's "word" holds little meaning for people these days. Just because I "claim" that these items were removed from Stone's old hunting lodge doesn't necessarily make it so. Right? So, If you're serious about bidding on an item: 1) Although it holds little real meaning, I WILL give you my word anyway, that any item that I offer and claim to have been removed from Faulkner's/Stone's hunting lodge in Panola county, Mississippi, WAS INDEED ACTUALLY SALVAGED FROM THAT LODGE. ( I guess a good Southern lawyer could shoot this full of holes...but it's the best I can come up with.) 2) Call the tax assessor's office in Panola County and see if they can give you the name of the current property owner where General Stone's old hunting lodge is located. (I haven't tried this, but I do believe that it is a matter of public record.) 3) I will include a certificate of authenticity with every item signed by me, guaranteeing the item to be exactly what I claim it to be...giving you legal recourse against me if ever required...but I can assure you that it won't ever be required. I would like to ask one thing of you in return: I would request that if you see anyone else selling (on eBay or anywhere else for that matter) artifacts supposedly salvaged from this particular hunting lodge within the last 16/17 years that you please contact me immediately! (Since the late 1980's someone has already made off with all of the interior door knobs except for one.) These are STOLEN items and I would greatly appreciate being informed about such activities. |
